【物】物件的存在~身處在物質充斥的環境中,唯有懂得珍惜物的人,才看得見隱藏其中的世界。

<人與物的感情>

曾經,我聽過一個很荒謬的說法,但我後來竟然漸漸相信了。

有個朋友藉著通靈的方式,想和他過世很久的親人聯繫,但通靈人卻很認真的告訴他,他的親人一直都在他身旁,因為他投胎成了一隻電風扇,而且就在家中。初聽這件事,大家當成一則天大的笑話。

但是,不知從何時開始,我慢慢發現每件物品似乎都有它的意義與宿命。常常我們以人為主體,支配周遭事物時,但卻沒有發現,事物似乎也在選擇它們與人的關係……;像是寫下每天心情的日記本、簽下結婚證書的那隻筆、讓人忘卻一切煩憂的收音機、黑暗孤獨時給人溫暖的床頭小燈、狂風暴雨中庇護人的房子,以及陪我們走過千山萬水的鞋子……。看著周遭每件物品上面大大小小的刮痕,我知道,每道傷痕裡都藏有許多它們與我之間的感情。

【The Statue】Every object around us seems to have its own fate. Sometimes Man is too proud to notice that objects have their own cycles of existence. In other words, it is they that choose their fate. Like the statue of the old woman and the flesh-and-blood old man, we have a relationship with the objects around us.

<天空的線條>

有一天,突然感覺,每一個地方的天空似乎都有它自己的線條。

而天空的線條反映出該地的現況,有美麗優雅,有雜亂無章,也有猙獰恐怖……



在線條裡,我看見人與土地間的關係,也聽見線條與空氣間的對話。

【The Sky's Secret】Have you ever noticed what the sky is like above your head? A regular, orderly arrangement like the photo above? Or the disturbing, crossing, and terrifying lines in the photo below? The sky has no secrets. Raising one's head with a focused and modest heart, one can always hear what the land is going to tell.

<櫥窗內的默劇>

我喜歡看各個賣場中陳列的模特兒,因為它們永遠是那麼光鮮亮麗,穿著最流行的服飾,站在如夢似幻的玻璃櫃內,送往迎來一雙雙的眼光。

這對櫥櫃中的小兄妹,我在每天必經的出入途中必定會看它們一眼。一對歡喜幸福的兄妹,哥哥勇敢樂天,妹妹含蓄靦腆,他們終日望向映在眼前大樓上自己的影子,似乎對未來充滿了希望與期待……



直到有一天午後,我走在路上,眼角突然驚見一個模特兒的頭和手,對照旁邊真實世界的人,卻是那麼從容不迫的匆匆來去。那時,我終於了解,原來所有對玻璃櫥櫃內的感情,都是來自內心對事物渴望的投射。那對玻璃櫥窗後的小兄妹永遠不會長大,因為那天的午後,我已經看見他們的未來了。

【Mimes in the Window】Every day on my way to work, a pair of mannequins, a little brother and sister, stood in a shop window, gazing silently at their reflections in the glass building across the street. Seeing their brave and stern faces, I almost convinced myself that they would grow up one day. Until one summer afternoon, I passed by a glass window and got a glimpse of a set of broken mannequin parts on the ground. Then I knew what would happen to the little brother and sister one day.

<展覽品>

當人過度自信時,世間萬物都像是人類的附屬。曾經我以物為主體試圖體驗另一種看待事情的角度,卻發現眼中的世界完全迥異於平日的經驗,至此,我終於了解,主、客觀的價值原來只存乎一念間。

這是美術館的公共藝術區的一個戶外裝置,一個身體中空的裝置藝術鐵人立於戶外的空地上,玻璃窗內一群人隔著落地玻璃觀賞瘦高的鐵人。我換了一個位置,拍下這張相片。定睛一看,赫然發覺玻璃窗外的鐵人成了觀眾,玻璃窗內的人群卻反倒成了展覽品,觀賞之餘,窗外的鐵人對眼前的展覽品滿意的舉起拇指稱讚一番……



另一個場景是台北市新公園旁的一隻大恐龍,經過牠身邊的人,久而久之也漸漸對這隻恐龍感到麻痺、不再存有新鮮感了。有一天,我心血來潮想知道牠到底盯著什麼東西看,於是,我繞到牠的身後一瞧,天啊!原來如此。

【Life Exhibition】A great dinosaur standing by the door of National Museum of History, intending to scare the grandfather and his little granddaughter who are passing by. A hollow skinny iron man standing in the center of the field, with its finger pointing to the glass door. On the other side of the glass door are a bunch of people eager to watch the iron man. Who is the one being exhibited? The dinosaur or the grandfather with his little granddaughter? The iron man or the people? Who knows?

<流籠>

一些偏僻的小鄉間,仍可見到「流籠」。

那是兩個山頭間傳遞物資的溝通方式,完全得靠人力來完成輸送的工作。由於安全上的顧慮,「流籠」並沒有被當成交通工具來大量使用。

拍照那天,三個調皮的小孩坐在上面,當「流籠」划到兩岸中間時,大家已經拉得有些經精疲力竭了,有人驚慌,也有人覺得好玩。鏡頭下的這張照片,留下了三個孩子迥異的情緒表情,也留下了他們愉快的童年,以及流籠上面曾經承載過的許多人對許多事的期盼……

【Liu Long】Liu Long is a square wooden box, tied with a long rope, used as a means of transporting thing, between two remote areas. On this day, there were three kids on the Liu Long: one scared almost to cry, the other excited, and the third with no facial expression whatsoever. Today, nearly twenty years later, I still keep the photo, hoping to preserve the sweetest burden Liu Long carried: children growing up and fulfilling people’s expectations.
