【Places】By listening to the stories of others, our own place in life becomes clearer.

【Candlestand Hill Once More】At the age of seventeen, I found a personal spiritual harbor. This was where I would go by myself, whenever I was feeling upset, and toss a coin into the ocean, making a wish and relieving all my inner turmoil. At the age of eighteen, I lost my secret garden. The government took over the beach, claiming they needed it for coast defense. At the age of thirty-three, I went back to visit my holy place. Over the past 15 years, I had gone through life's ups and downs. But now, as I stood before the ocean--not remembering what wish I had made 15 years ago--my only wish was to find the coins I'd lost, along with my passion.

<好望角>

【Cape of Good Hope】I never knew that Taiwan had a "Cape of Good Hope," just like the famous one in South Africa, until one day when I stepped into the flat field up in the mountains. The open scenery and the train rushing by seen here could not express one percent of my shock and awe at that night. This is my Cape of Good Hope.

【Gun Tower With a Smiling Face】I still remember the unspoken shock when I first saw the tower. Here was a Spanish-style tower with a smiling human face. How did it come to be there in the first place? I couldn't help thinking that the tower must have been built by a cultivated artist, or perhaps an architect with great insight. "Actually this is a gun tower, and the smiling holes are the gun windows to defend the builder's family." Surprised to discover the truth, I heard the crash of my imagination.

【Death Games】"Don't worry," said one of the boys pretending to be dead. "The tomb is my cousin's. He lies inside, and we just came to play with him, just like before." After saying that, the boy turned around to fight with the others for his turn to be the dead.

<麵攤>

【Noodle Stand】A little girl has just woken up from the noodle stand on a busy street in central Taipei. On the opposite site of the stand, her father is eating his lunch at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. "Does she have anything to say?" You may be asking yourself. From the loving expression in her eyes, you can almost hear the words of endearment that she spoke to her father.
